Month of May, Month of Mary

The Sanctuary commemorates the month of Mary in May. May, which is traditionally devoted to the Virgin Mary, is a time for prayer, hope, and trust. A simple act of public piety, but one that is infused with affection and gratitude for the blessings received, is the daily placement of white flowers at the feet of the statue of the Crowned Virgin, donated by pilgrims from all over the world.

The Order of Malta pilgrimage and the International Military Pilgrimage, two significant spring pilgrimages that are powerful occasions of faith, service, and camaraderie, are held in Lourdes during this time of year.

À Lourdes, At Lourdes, the Virgin Mary watches over, guides and consoles. This May, the Sanctuary invites everyone to turn to Our Lady of Lourdes in prayer and trust.

Secrets of History filmed at the Sanctuary

The Sanctuary of Lourdes was honoured to welcome Stéphane Bern and the teams from the Secrets of History programme for the filming of a special documentary about Bernadette Soubirous.

At the invitation of Monsignor Jean-Marc Micas, Bishop of Tarbes and Lourdes, and Father Michel Daubanes, Rector of the Sanctuary, this event marks a new milestone in the promotion of the spiritual and historical heritage of Lourdes.

The Communications team is delighted to have played a part in hosting the event, alongside all those working at the Sanctuary.

65th International Military Pilgrimage will soon be returning to the Sanctuary

From 16th to 18th May, brothers-in-arms from all over the world will gather at the Sanctuary, at the feet of Our Lady of Lourdes, to renew their prayers for peace in the world. In this jubilee year, the theme of the pilgrimage will be ‘Servicemen and women, Pilgrims of Hope’.

The Order of Malta's pilgrimage visited Lourdes from 2nd to 6th May

The Order of Malta's International Pilgrimage gathered in the Marian city for its annual international pilgrimage. Knights, Dames, hospitaliers and pilgrims from 44 countries on 5 continents came together to honour the Order's motto:

“Tuito Fidei et Obsequium Pauperum” – defence of the Faith and service to the poor and the suffering.

Every year, the Order of Malta's pilgrimage is a promise honoured: that of a journey shared with the most vulnerable, driven by faith, fellowship and dedication.

HCPT: a week of joy and hope for children with disabilities

The HCPT groups held their annual pilgrimage during the octave of Easter at the Sanctuary of Lourdes.

Every year, the joyful HCPT pilgrimage brightens up the atmosphere around the Sanctuary by enabling thousands of children with disabilities to experience a pilgrimage to Lourdes.

Soon after the departure of the young people of the FRAT, thousands of them gathered to celebrate the ‘Trust Mass’ in the Basilica of St Pius X, a high point where all the groups come together to share a joyful time of prayer.

Secondary school students from the 8 dioceses of Ile de France came together to spend 4 unforgettable days in Lourdes. Every two years, FRAT brings together thousands of young people for times of prayer, praise and encounter at the Sanctuary.

This year, more than 13,000 young people made their voices heard in the Basilica of St Pius X, an all-time record for the pilgrimage!
